As shown in Photo 1, the best way to determine where to sew the skirt together in the back is to fold the dress in half with the wrong side facing out. Make sure the edges of the bodice line up properly so that the top and bottom of the bodice match up. Pin the bodice in place.
Beginning under the hook and loop tape, sew the seam down to the bottom of the skirt. See the finished seam in Photo 2.
Using an iron, press open the seam so that when you create the hem, it isn’t bulky at the back of the dress. This is shown in Photo 3.
Before hemming the dress, I use the iron to fold up the edge of the skirt as in Photo 4. As one who is experienced in sewing, I don’t use pins to hold the hem in place before sewing. If you are afraid the hem will move, place a few pins into the hem before sewing it permanently into place. I start at the back where the seam was sewn, sew around the skirt and end with a reverse stitch over the seam. Photo 5 shows the sewn hem.
Photo 6: Turn the dress right side out. Your dress is nearly complete! Now let’s try it on for size…
