Some people avoid sewing darts because they seem difficult to sew. The best way I know to describe sewing darts is to think of folding a piece of paper. You want the edges of the paper to be exactly aligned with each other before making a crease in the paper. Similarly, you want the edges of the dart, or each side of the triangle that was cut with a regular scissors, to match up before you sew them together.
Photo 1: Pinch the edges of the dart together, then pin together before sewing. There are four darts to be sewn: Two on the lining and two on the outer fabric. If it is helpful, draw a line around the dart to serve as a guide when sewing.
Photo 2: The sewn darts should look like this.
Photo 3: Turn the bodice right side out and use a crochet hook or other object to gently push out the corners of the bodice. Be careful not to push through the fabric.
Press the bodice with an iron.
You’re now ready to attach the bodice to the skirt.
